General Objective: To guarantee the development of water resources management and water infrastructure in the country contributing to poverty reduction of the population.
To improve, in a measurable way, the performance of the Administração Regional de Águas do Norte (ARA-Norte), according to its Organic Statute, in the internal basins of Montepuez Messalo, Megaruma and Orla Marítima by 2014.

The EC finances 393.980 €, through the 10th European Development Fund ACP- EU Water Facility, and Xunta de Galicia finances 138.000 €.
Number of beneficiaries: Direct beneficiaries are Mozambique institutions dealing with Water Management. Indirectly, the whole population of Cabo Delgado province (1.500.000 inhabitants) and Niassa province (1.027.037 inhabitants) will benefit with the project.
In Mozambique, 80% of the population lives from subsistence agriculture. Water resources only cover 50-60% of the population. In this context, sustainable use of land and water resources have a close relationship with poverty reduction.
Mandatory Result (OE)
To improve, in a measurable way, the performance of the Administração Regional de Águas do Norte (ARA-Norte), according to its Organic Statute, in the internal basins of Montepuez Messalo, Megaruma and Orla Marítima by 2014, by:
(1) Monitoring of water resources,
(2) evaluation of water infrastructure,
(3) environmental management and planning
(4) and control of public water domain, leading to participation and involvement of actors of interest.

R1. Increase and systematize knowledge of water resources (quantity and quality), demands and risks in the inland basins of the northern region of the country, while coordinating with the rest of interventions.
R2. Increase the capacity of ARA-North for evaluation, monitoring, planning and management of water resources.
R3. Preparation of a Management Plan for Water Resources in the inland basins, according to the tasks described in its organic statute.
R4. Adoption of a "Plan of Action Scheme Important Topics” for the implementation of Plans and Committees of the basins Montepuez, Messalo, Megaruma and Orla Maritima.
